End of the season is only a day old and foe Lehigh is on to the NCAAs.  They face the same path in the tournament as Colgate; @UNH and @JMU, should they advance.  It may be ironic but it is also uninspiring.  The PL always has the same postseason path that runs through the CAA.  One way to solve that would be for Colgate to win these tough OOC games for a change and host a game themselves.  We'll have that chance once again next year on Day 1, so we'll see.

Not sure what it is about UNH; a 7-4 record and they get to host 9-2 Lehigh?  Their schedule isn't that much more challenging.  They are receiving votes in the latest poll; Lehigh is #17.  Some argued the Wildcats didn't even deserve to be in the tournament last year, let alone host.  Seems the stars always align for them.  Lehigh has a good chance, hope they stick it to 'em and get some redemption for the poor year our league has had this season.

On another note, Gtown finishes winless in league play; their new coach just finishing his 3rd season and I read that new upgrades were being done to their FB facilities?  Lafayette needs to show Tavani the door; Susan at Bucknell is taking a bit too long IMO to make any progress, and Gilmore was given a new contract which baffles me.  If nothing else, our schools seem very loyal to their FB coaches.

Big question is: if we were to win the league next season would our admin stand the cost of putting on a home game? Remember the times we did not have home playoff games because admin put the kibosh on it? I'm thinking if we do get in and can host, Pres. Casey (and Coach Hunt) would probably be in favor of having the game(s) at the Kerrdome.

I went to the first 3 games this year, and after our respectable losses to Syracuse and Richmond, and historic win over Yale (largest margin of defeat in Yale Bowl history), felt we had a chance to at least duplicate last year's success. I never would have guessed we would go 4-3 against Cornell and our PL foes. But ill-timed injuries to Wilkins and some bad breaks resulted in this just not being our year. I wonder if the second half collapse, bad luck, bad spot/calls which resulted in that shocking loss to Cornell hadn't happened if the team would have faced Fordham and (especially) Lehigh with more confidence. Those games could have been wins. I think an 8-3 record with wins over Cornell and Lehigh or Fordham would have gotten us an at-large bid.

Some years are magical and everything falls into place (2003, last year). Others are not meant to be even with very strong teams (1982 and 1983 come to mind, though there was a fifth column those years). What a great group of seniors we'll miss next year. Their playoff run last year was fabulous, and win over James Madison was one of the top-5 in my 40 years of following Colgate football.

Lehigh and the PL took another post-season hit today. 'Cats hammered the EnginHawks without mercy, 60-something - 20-something. Kind of puts the entire PL on notice that there is a long way to go before we can stack up against the CAA in the playoffs.   Crying or Very sad

From what I read over on AGS, Lehigh's starting QB was sick & didn't start and their defensive captain & best defender got hurt early.  A blowout yes, but maybe a little closer if they had all their players.

According to the UNH players, "the Colgate game" had the Wildcats fired up for Lehigh as apparently they took us for granted last year after beating us during the regular season.  Whatever... I don't think the gap between the PL champ and a top CAA team is as great as it was back when 5-7 Lafayette got pasted by UNH a few years back, but would be nice to see a few more Patriot wins in these contests so our playoff wins last year don't stick out as such an anomaly.

Some great memories from this time last year.  Undefeated SHU only a #5 seed in this year's tournament, maybe they were a bit overrated with a light schedule.  JMU-NoDak would be a great game next weekend, we'll see...

Some great playoff football this weekend, and both road teams won.  Not sorry to see NoDak come in second for a change.

#4 JMU (13-1) vs. Youngstown St (12-3) on Jan. 7 @ noon on ESPN2

JMU looking for its 2nd title since 2004; YSU has titles in 91, 93, 94, 97 & 99.

Abdullah is the bread and butter for JMU.  They lose their head coach and still come out on top the next season.  Should be an exciting championship.

I watched the last quarter of EWU/YSU, a great game.  The touchdown catch by the YSU receiver at the end was incredible and got noticed by Deadspin, so it has to be pretty good!
