To the Seniors on the Colgate Team in the Season of 2016: You have just completed a grueling season , one that we all know started virtually days after the phenomenal run that you  (and we alums. family and friends )enjoyed at this time last year. 5-5 wasn't on your radar screen in January 2016 as you thought about this season. But as you've brought your team to "500" at the close of this challenging year, you need to walk tall in remembering all that you and your teammates accomplished together. In my view, as an alum who has followed this program since the 1950's (thanks to geographic proximity, The Binghamton Press and a legendary High School Football Coach who captained Colgate's 1956 team) you are an esteemed group that we fans will always hold out as a cornerstone element in the program.  You are the first Scholarship Class. My incoming Class of 1974 was the first co-ed Class. We forged a rebirth of relevance and quality in football at Colgate. We were D-1 all the way then, with no league affiliation. The NCAA prohibited freshman participation, and we played a 5 game freshman team schedule. Our team, led by QB Tom Parr, FB Ralph Folkes, RB Mark van Eeeghen, linemen Bob Arotsky and John Binks and d stalwarts Rick Horton and Tom Pandissio  went 5-0 with wins over the frosh from Army, Cornell, Buffalo, Dartmouth and Syracuse. The team went on to measured success in 1971 ( a noteworthy win in the Yale Bowl ) and 1972, but depth, injuries and scheduling issues seemed to pull the squad down through 1973. All seemed lost when our wishbone run offense played at home in the snow in game 9 of a ten game schedule against Boston University. We could not get any footing all day and lost 3-0 on a short BU field goal. Hence, 4-5 going into a Thanksgiving weekend game in New Jersey against an 8-1 Rutgers team with their leading rusher in the country, J.J.Jennings. Well, THERE IS A GOD. Mark v. ran for 240+ yards (and an intro to a fabulous NFL career), we held Jennings to something like 13 yards gained,  'Gate won 42-0 and the return to Hamilton post-game party at Hickey's was one for the ages.   My point is, the members of that era of Colgate football and my fellow Classmates and fans have now had 43 years of knowing that a "500"season has eternal, diamond, championship moments. By every important standard of measure you have done your School Proud, and we thank you.

Great story jb. This senior class truly is a great one and the coaches have their work cut out for themselves in 2017.  That fron seven was magnificent! Qb excellent for three years and Maddaluna as good as we will ever see at gate.

Ditto. Great senior class; going to be hard to rebuild after what we saw this season. No reason to hang your heads - to come back late in the year and post a 500% record is quite an accomplishment. Wish all the seniors well as they move on off campus!
