2016 Colgate Football recruiting

Please help me out and post any Colgate offers or commitments that you find. You can follow along with my updates here...

Gate'83

So with no Giant game at 4 today I ran through your list and noticed a bunch of the non-italicized guys have now made commitments.  Following your list in order, here are the guys by last name & where they're going (all sourced via Rivals unless otherwise indicated).  Found it to be an interesting exercise:

Gaiter  FIU (twitter)
Hahn  UConn
Shuster  Michigan
Zapata  Liberty
Scott  Syracuse
Lewis Ohio (247)
Powell  Monmouth
Kramer  FAU
Brouse  Syracuse
Callender  Yale
Williams  Buffalo
Raine  FAU
Powell  Air Force (twitter)
Mauro Delaware (twitter)
Begnoche  Penn
Hargrove  Pitt (twitter)
Whiteman  Harvard
Frost  Princeton (twitter)
Hughes  William & Mary
Mullhollan  South Dakota State
Johnson  Arkansas
Omorogbe  Middle Tennessee St.
Cepalia  Yale
Leonard  BC
Long  Navy
Adams  Rice
Barnes  Air Force
Carter UCF (247)
Freshnock  Bucknell (twitter)
Baumgardner  UVA
Gilchrist  Pitt
Daniel  Kent State
Givan  Fordham
Davis  Navy (Facebook/family friends)
Chinn  North Dakota (twitter)

Don't know if you want to italicize them or not, but was interesting to see how little overlap we have with the other PL squads, much more w/ the Ivies & service academies.  Thanks for keeping the list, let's hope for some #wins in the next few weeks!
Gate63

Awesome. I will go in and italicize them. That was just more work than I wanted to take on.  Cool

Updated, thanks.

Dead period for the Holidays. NSD is 2/3. Leaves perhaps 4 weekends for officials. Dont know how relevant they are now with students on break for most of Jan.
Pards seem to be getting most verbals with 18 . Most are around 5-6.
How big a class is Gate expecting? LU ,FU, will be small ,perhaps 16-18.

It's probably safe to say we won't be taking any transfers from Sam Houston SU.

The Ivies are killing the PL in recruiting it appears to me.  Scholarships are not helping all that much and thirty recruits a year covers up mistakes.

Yup,schollies do even the contest somewhat but dont expect them to give us more than that. Ivy cachet carries a lot of weight. Moreover ,the actual difference in financial aid is not that large. Overall,we win more H2Hs now than we did prior to schollies.  Our main competition is with the CAA,service academies and MAC.
noneya

Complete outsider here guys.  I went to an SEC school and still live in an SEC state.

I will tell you scholarships will make a massive difference.  My nephew in Florida is being recruited by Lafayette and Dartmouth (there are others but so far those are the leaders pushing hardest).  I would tell you that without LCs ability to offer a scholarship it would already be over.  Ivy is still Ivy and everyone knows that but it's a great equalizer and has made it even a discussion.  Without that he'd be weighing figuring out Dartmouth aide vs. his preferred walk-on at Central Florida.

The more years you have them the more the edge will win a few kids here and a few kids there and over time I think you will be massively better on the field than the Ivys and kids will be making the decision on the basis of Ivy education vs. really really good PL education and quality football competition.

Now if only I could get Colgate to show some interest in him.  I'm a big fan of the school which is what led me to your board.

Any way you can add the date prior to the name for each scholarship offer or verbal commit and put a strike-through for any player that has committed elsewhere?

http://www.colgatefootballcollection.com/2016-recruiting.html

From Future's post on 12/31:

Alex Mathews - I'd say Colgate is making an impact if we're able to lure him away from these other options

http://highschoolsports.cleveland...=cbeee781e791bb630eda7604f0fa347e

Another Branch or Scott or Eachus in the making?!  Looks like a terrific, accomplished kid.
The Future

On the recruiting list/dates, etc, seems like a lot of work for 63--and he's the only guy putting all of this together (and also doing this site). The italics tell you when someone goes somewhere else and do get updated. The order they commit is from top to bottom.

Here is some more stuff on Gaertner. Looks like a kid who works very hard. Had a nice punt return for a TD against the Navy JV.
http://www.gainsports.com/prospects/Aidan-Gaertner

Not sure how many of the commits are scholarship guys at this point. I heard Colgate had 14 to offer (but that was as of August).

I can consider adding a date for next year's version. The offers are all arranged in the order that I find them, so the newest are on the bottom. Players that have committed elsewhere are in italics.
Gate63

New commit. Another local kid.

Jamison Luke:
LB/DL/OL - 6'3" - 220lbs
https://twitter.com/cbrown2321/status/683169475613605888 - not the greatest source for a commitment tweet, but 'Jamo' liked the tweet and he is followed on Twitter by Coach Knowles - https://twitter.com/jluke_98 . I have to assume he is coming in to play LB.

10th Commit. Coach Hunt tweeted '#win', Triston retweeted that with a comment, and one of his relatives started following me. Pretty solid evidence.

And here it is. Didn't have to look too far.

Jake Shaffner - LB/TE - 6'3" - 218lbs

Ok, now I'm back on the hunt again because Coach Hunt just tweeted this... https://twitter.com/CoachDanHunt/status/684943671368749056

...which must be a reference to Shaffner. Which means one is still out there to be found.

New commit, not sure if he is the one Coach Hunt referenced yesterday afternoon.

Critic

Impressive to say the least. The kid has quite a leg. Does he put every kickoff through the end zone? Sure appears that way. How long and how accurate is he with his field goals?
Gate63

No doubt he has a strong leg and good form. I wouldn't put too much stock in the video though. Seems like a windy day with the amount the ball was moving on his field goals and he never kicked the other direction. That'd help his kickoff distance too. But he could make himself an option if Bowman struggles.
The Future

Kid seems to bomb it on these kicks, but I do have to agree with 63 on one thing--you can see how strong of a tailwind there is by how much his shorts are blowing.

Still, 31 of 47 of his kicks were touchbacks. That's a lot of kicks traveling at least 61 yards. (Not sure if kicks into the end zone in PA are automatic touchbacks but it looks like it from his highlights.)

Colgate's opponents averaged 59.6 yards a KO. Colgate averaged 56.3. Don't know how squib kicks factor into that.

Ball seems to jump off his foot pretty well in other highlights--and he was injured at the beginning of this year. First team all state is a pretty good sign of what kind of kicker he has the potential to be.

Interesting article about how Colgate recruited him.

http://republicanherald.com/sport...r-puzzi-chooses-colgate-1.1993063

On Fairchild, looks similar to Wingenroth. Very good instincts. Should be able to make guys miss.
Gate63

Have seen a few Tweets about prospective recruits visiting this weekend. Hope we can get a few commitments out of it.

Speaking of H.C.

Future, do you ever read Crossposts, the H.C. sports board.
It's a cross between a cyber-Animal House for Middle-Agers and a lunatic ward for alums that feel entitled to something better than the P.L. because they won a national championship 70 years ago, the friggin' Truman Administration.
They're lucky the P.L.lets them stay in. Their brand has really deteriorated across the board. They hired a new AD to revive the athletics part of the equation. Poor guy...this Crossposts crowd expects to be in the New Big East next year.

It makes me really appreciate the sanity of this Board. Not only are these guys delusional. But one poster literally gets "shit-faced" to post insanity after a big loss. They also come as close to fisticuffs with one another as you can do in virtual reality.

Check it out!
Gate'83

Another one...

Cameron Rohr
Twitter:  https://twitter.com/RohrCam/status/679109902061670400
Hudl:  http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2075069/cameron-rohr

Big boy, nose guard.  Always need those...
The Future

Seems like the O line will be the biggest priority in the '18 season. Not sure which side he'd be on but Rohr would be a good get.

As for the H.C. board, that is a team that wins the first 3/4's of about every game they play. I think it would be hard not to lose your mind as a fan. Lots more memorable QB's there than RB's and you need to be able to run the ball in the 4th to win (please don't tell them that). The last time H.C. had a 1,000 yard rusher was 1991 and they have only had eight in the history of the program (all eight of them were between 1982 and 1991--when they were great. Just saying...). H.C. won five of the first six Colonial/PL championships from 86-91. In the 24 years since, they have had zero 1,000 yard rushers and won one championship but boy can their QB's spin it. Please stay focused on how well those QB's can throw the ball, H.C.!!!

"IN CLASS A, New Hartford's Dominick Pfisterer was named fourth team all-state as an “all-purpose” player.

Pfisterer, primarily a wide receiver as a junior, led New Hartford in rushing this past season with 733 yards and 10 touchdowns on 87 carries. He also threw five touchdown passes and he led the Spartan defense with three interceptions.  Holy Cross, Colgate and Cortland are among the colleges expressing an interest in Pfisterer."

Kid looks like a different kind of rusher than the short, muscled guys we usually get.  Very elusive...he can do it all but the rank is not that great.  Is he a scholarship player?

Nat. Rank 8988
NY Rank 308

Fairchild seemed to have some impressive accolades, but it didn't look like many were recruiting him.  Just who did we get that is a rated, "star" recruit of some kind?  Anyone?  How about the rest of the league?  I know Bucknell and Lafayette had at least 1 apiece.
RichH

Big jump from A level HS ball. Phisterer is a slotback. Guess him to be a flanker for Gate.
Working on the recruiting classds. Gate now clisd to Pards for numbers. Every team got a good number of very good prospects.  Gate at this point seems to have an edge for best group. Hopefully we all fill out our rosters with more quality. Good luck on NSD.

Looks like the DL from Ohio is Esarco (instead of playing LB). Maybe he’s a step slow for LB in college but boy can he hit and seems to have good instincts.

Rohr is a great pick up. Hope he ends up on the DL and is playing at 320 in a year or two.

Noah Rothman (QB) only starting playing the position one game into senior year. Throws a nice deep ball.

Pfisterer has one of the better hits on the top of his tape.

Wheeler’s story is pretty incredible. Amazed he is able to play.

Kane moves well. Lots of 6’3”, 6’4” guys who can run in this class. Will be interesting to see what they turn into in a few years.

Good article about recruiting, 63. Scarfone just dropped from *** to a **--wonder how much tape of the top 50 QB’s 247 was looking at to justify the drop.

Colgate has fewer ** guys at this point than any class in the past five years or so but more guys who are on recruiting websites. When you see Diaco or Rohr not even on recruiting sites, you know they are missing a ton of guys. Can’t imagine those two wouldn’t get a few stars if they were in Florida and going to recruiting camps.

Should be the biggest class in years—24 at this point. Looking like a lot of good players. Heard there were 14 scholarships to offer before the season started. Feels like they have given out 15 or 16 but it's always hard to tell.

Rivals notorious for moving stars depending on where you sign. Our Frosh QB went from 4* to 3 then to 2 whenhe signed with LU. Our 2 so. QBs were at 0 then went to 2 when they signed. 247 and ESPN dont elevator yheir ratings.

The rating services are a complete joke.  I would much rather rely on our coaches film work!

Agree, CR.  63's link earlier is pretty telling.  Hope all is well with you in the New Year!

The best rating is other offers. I bet on the acumen of multiple coaching staffs.

'63 is at least 16 for 16. Seems like there are three or four unidentified #wins out there. Good write ups on players on the Colgate site.

Oof, that's not good. Poached by Michigan.

Will Hart replacement just tweeted by Coach Dakosty.

From Coach Hunt's tweet he sounds like a legacy...

He has a good leg. 78% touchbacks on KO's is really good. Should have a lot of options on KO's this year. Much easier to see KO's than punts on tape but almost 44 yards per punt is great.

Coach Hunt's interview said he is looking for a class of 23. My list currently has 24... Looks like Jamison Luke may not be included. He was the weakest of my sourced tweets if I remember correctly.
CR(colorlessraider)

Never was a recruit.  Kane should be the next one.

Was thinking the same thing about Kane.

Great signing day interview; such a contrast to dry, monotone Biddle Wink  Can see the difference scholarships are making, esp. with the O-line, wow...300+ pounds?!  Sheesh!  Still waiting for kids to pick 'Gate over the CAA or Ivy on a regular basis.

A good season in hockey doesn't seem to translate to good recruits the next season.  Football feels different!

Congrats to all of the coaches.  Here's to PL Title No. 9!
