2017 Football Recruiting

I've got the website ready to go, just waiting on some offers to put on there. Strange that I haven't found any yet. From browsing the HC board I think they are into the double digits already.

Geez Ryan the ink is barely dry on the NLOI from 2016 lol but love your enthusiasm.  Paid close attention to your list this past year; seemed there was initial excitement with early offers to way-out-of-reach, multi-star players but that the true commits signed much later.  Thought some of our first offers last season did not occur until July?

Cross got me going Smile. 3 offers out for LU. Started my list also. Did see one for Gate. I'll try to find it tomorrow.
go'gate

Found the story to be very interesting.   And very disheartening for the Patriot League.  The Ivy League participates in postseason hockey, basketball, lacrosse...not so sure football isn't far behind.

Are there forums for other PL schools that list their recruits as Colgate does, other than Rivals, etc?

I'll try to have our spreadsheet for '17 up over the weekend..
The Future

Holy Cross has made 15 offers. Colgate may not have made any. I wonder if what the shift in thinking is for either school or whether Colgate's season being three weeks longer pushed back '17 recruiting in any way.

None have 2017 offers yet; still looking for a FB link for Bucknell.  Lafayette's FB page lists '15-16 sports records...not very impressed with the Leopards!

Updated again. Looks like we are getting going now. Will probably update every night or every other night if I can.
bison137

Bucknell list:   http://boards.basketball-u.com/showtopic.php?tid/18865/

When that list was posted, there were 31 outstanding offers - but there are a couple more who need to be added.
go'gate

It's probably typical, but is there any advantage to offering so early?  Players don't possibly make up their minds this soon, do they?!  The early offers often seem to be to those so out of reach.
bison137

I think it very much depends on the player.   There are some who seem to have a good feeling towards the schools/coaches who believed in them and offered them early.   Others don't seem to care at all.

Some of the early offers are to players who are out of reach - but it's hard to predict who will get offers from what schools.   On the Bucknell list, there are some with offers from good FBS schools, but in most cases they didn't have those offers when Bucknell offered.   There are some others with MAC offers, but I don't consider those players to be out of reach.  BU has landed some recruits who turned down the MAC - and I imagine Colgate has also.   Of the 31, I don't think more than five are clearly out of reach as of now - but many others will move into that category over the summer.

As for when players commit, they definitely don't commit as early in football as they do in basketball.  (And they commit years later in football than they do in lax.)   However I know Bucknell has had a few May/June commitments.   I assume others have had them that early as well.
RichH

Lehigh does not make anywhete near the same number of early offrrs as Bucknell or Cross. Not sure there is much difference in early or later.  Lehigh has had a very few early verbals. One in April that I know of.
Gate'83

Football may be moving towards the lax model, sadly.  http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/highschool/article/Incoming-New-Canaan-freshman-QB-offered-7216656.php

The Future

Certainly seems like the O-line should be very good this year. As far as Badovinac goes, he's very quick off of the ball and a punishing finisher. Great way to start the new class.

Caine looks great. He's exactly the kid you hoped scholarships would bring in. Offers to eight schools including Temple, Toledo, Kent State, Ball State, Columbia, and Yale. (Think whoever created the thing showing Colgate with a 98% graduation rate and career earnings better than most every school--and comparing Colgate with the Ivies, MAC, and PL is a genius--such a good thing to show to recruits.)

Here are some of his offers:

Colgate with eight kids signed. Rest of the PL has three or so total. Anybody know how many scholarships Colgate has to offer this year?

This is shaping up to what appears to be a terrific class.  Long way to go but staff is oing a great job.  Go 'Gate!
go'gate

So much going for Colgate, especially the terrific coach.  Would like to know what exactly it is that gets recruits like this to sign!  Turning down an Ivy?  Wow.  Turning down Temple with fans that number into the thousands?  Wow.  Makes me think that guys like him who choose Colgate understand how special this place really is, and...

Just. Get. It.
CR(colorlessraider)

My guess is there are 7-8 scholrships are left.  So far so good.
Steve

I agree entirely about that "Performance" poster with those other conferences and figures. Terrific marketing tool! Sheer brilliance.

Go 'gate!
Steve

Coach Hunt told me that Ryan Knowles was the person responsible for designing and executing this brilliant marketing poster.

With a team like this delivering goods of this quality, the future looks great! Nothing succeeds like success.

Go 'gate!
RichH

Agree that poster is a great marketing tool. Not however all that much different than pitches from PL core teams. Closing offers early is not unusual. Gate numbers are. My guess is the credit must go to the staff and to Coach Hunt for closing so many so early.
The Future

Class has good balance so far. Receiver seems to be what's missing (of course there are four other players total signed by other PL teams this point).

Is McGarrity for sure coming next year or this year? His highlights are from senior year (was originally going to St. Johns for lacrosse--wonder what changed).

Anybody know how it works with offers? Has Colgate starting pulling them with this many kids signing? Would seem to put pressure on kids considering Colgate who don't have many other offers.
CR(colorlessraider)

McGarrity is next year as he will take pg year at Kent school.
The Future

Thanks for the info, CR.
RichH

No idea what Coach Hunt's policy is with offers.  Usually coaching staffs have recruiting priorities by postions.  Roster needs first then best athlete. Example staf wants 3 CBs. They have scouted 30 or 40 and have offers out to 13 prospects. Their #6 prospect verbals. Then #2 verbals. Staff will likely add more offers and not pull any.
But looking for one TE and #1 verbals. They may pull some offers behind that but not all of them. Verbals not binding. IMO, way too early to start pulling offers. Too many unknowns. Most attrition on early offers is kids verballing elsewhere.
Zappa

After thirty eight years Colgate has terminated the services of Birnie Bus. I'm not sure what effect(if any) this will have.

A QB from Rumon-Fair Haven, NJ.  Looks like a better runner than passer
The Future

Rich, everything you said makes sense.

O'Connor runs very well and has great vision. Seems like he could develop as a passer. Listed as 6'2" 195 in a few places. Could see him shifting to LB but seems to run the running part of the read option very well.

Had offers from Robert Morris and Bryant--not sure if he had any others.

Ruane going to UMASS

I agree with you, CR. He might have had more offers but those were the only two on twitter that I saw Very, very good runner. Looks like the UNH QB's that used to give Colgate fits in the playoffs.

Wouldn't get to upset at going elsewhere lists. They tend to swell in size much faster than coming here lists.Smile  We all have them. Kinda depressing but just part of recruiting cycle.

You are right Rich, I just get too emotional about "losses".  How are Mtn Hawks doing in recruiting derby?

CR
Ah now to really depressing Smile. No confirmed verbals as of today. Us and Hoyas are the only shutouts for now. No clue what this portends for this recruiting cycle. Cant help but ask Why them and not us. Dont expect much news until December. After HS season is over. .
CR(colorlessraider)

Hard to believe no commits as of now.  Maybe Coach Andy has decreed no pub and asked kids to keep quiet.
RichH

Possible as is that of twitterles recruits. The gag does not extend to HS coaches or teammates. Very unusual for them to keep quiet. All speculation Smile. Now to focus on camp and this season.
