John LeFevre '41

Saddened to note the passing of John LeFevre '41, a great guy and huge hockey supporter.  For those not on the Silver Puck mailing list, here's the note they sent out:

It is with a heavy heart that we write to inform you that John Lefevre '41 passed away on July 25th.  John was literally a life-long supporter of Colgate University and Colgate Hockey. Both shall miss him greatly. His name is for sure up there in the Pantheon of other Colgate alumni who never forgot what playing hockey for Colgate meant to them. Meeting John you knew you were in the presence of someone special; even more special when you were lucky enough to get to know him.

John, who played on an outdoor rink at Colgate, who witnessed The Starr Rink being constructed in the late 1950's, was very excited about The Class of '65 Arena and the Steven J. Riggs Rink that will be dedicated on October 1st. His presence will be sorely missed.

When Whit Willams passed away in 1998, John took over as President of The Silver Puck Club and continued on as President until 2006. He was a great mentor to Jerry Quill who had the honor to succeed him.

Perhaps Paul Valery said it best, "A great man is one who leaves others at a loss after he is gone." To us and for all Colgate Hockey fans, that is a fitting epitaph for John M. Lefevre, '41. God speed John.

Don Vaughan, Head Coach, Colgate Hockey
Jerry Quill '60, President, The Silver Puck Club

Funeral services for John will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in the Colgate Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m.  Family members have indicated that gifts in his memory may be designated to Silver Puck or the John LeFevre '41 Scholarship Fund.

Knew him well; his summer home is next to my family's; he and my grandfather Colgate '28 were closest friends.  Had played golf with him often.  He had a rich, full life and was a tremendous advocate for Colgate. Forum Index -> Hockey
