WSOC PL title determined on 9-28 & 10-2

Gate plays three time defending champion @Boston ( 1-10 ) on W., 9-28 and emerging contender Bucknell ( 8-1) on Sunday afternoon in Hammytown. Gate has reloaded the roster, sporting 6 frosh starting and improving every game from the beginning of the season. Good enough to beat Boston. Boston has not been as strong this season as it has been in recent years. Buckie, coached by former Gate standout and Kathy Brawn progeny, Kelly Cook brings a strong Bucknell team to Hammy. Bucky favored. This week will determine the PL championship, as Buckie has already knocked off Boston.

I disagree somewhat.  Boston played probably the toughest ooc schedule in PL history and got beat down a bit - but there is a reason they were a heavy favorite to win the league.   Bucknell beat them in a close game that could have gone either way, but I wouldn't say Bucknell is better than Boston U.  As for the title being decided this week, Boston, Bucknell, and Colgate could all lose at least one game to the next tier (Army, Navy, Loyola, and Lehigh), especially on the road.  I could easily see the regular season title not being decided until October 29th if Colgate beats Bucknell and loses to Boston U - an outcome that wouldn't be surprising.

So BU is outscored 21-2 in first 10 games with 8 shutouts against, and goes 0-10.  Enter the Patriot League: they have 2 shutouts already and outscore opponents 2-0.  The disparity between success in/out of conference play is remarkably different and doesn't seem so in a good way.  BU has won the PL and advanced to the NCAA tournament each year since it has been a member.  Feels like a dynasty in the making.  I am not a fan of their dominance or membership but it is what it is.

Boston U lost their first PL game to Bucknell 2-0.   They have since won two 1-0 games.   So in PL play, they have scored 2 goals and given up 2.

In fairness to them, their ooc schedule was extremely hard.   Played six teams from power conferences - two of whom were top 20 and all of whom are better than any PL team.   Also two of the other three opponents (Hofstra and Northeastern) are better than most PL teams.   Still, they should have won a couple - but I think the losing may have worn them down mentally.   PL play is truly a new season and they likely feel a bit rejuvenated.

Thx 4 the correction bison, much appreciated

Notwithstanding how competitive the top of the PL appears with the two BUs and Colgate playing well, Boston's BU's OCC record and the PL's history in the NCAA playoffs continue to point to the fact that the league still has not reached its potential nationally. I welcome Boston's BU into the league because otherwise Colgate's long history of success could lead to a complacency and stagnancy that we can all do without...As with our occasionally nationally ranked sports men's and women's hockey and men's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer have the potential to be very good each year and we should expect nothing less...Go Gate!
