So much for the hope of Gate ( 22-9-3, 13-8-1 ) breaking into the top echelon of the ECAC this year. For some, there's still hope that knocking at the door will ultimately prove to be more than merely a way station away from Gate's historical role as a bottom feeder:  2014-15  ( 7-25-2, 4-16-2 ),  2015-16 ( 22-9-1, 12-5-5 ), 2016-17, ( 22-9-3, 13-8-1 )

The quarterfinal series against Cornell should be a good battle. Obviously, Gate hasn't fared that well against the top 5 ECAC teams ( winning only 2 0f 10 contests. ). And #3 Cornell has been steadily improving since their shakey start of the season. Gate's victory against the Big Red came early in the season in Hammy. So, it remains to be seen how competitive this series will be.

No. 6 Colgate at No. 3 Cornell
Friday, February 24 - Colgate at Cornell, 3 p.m.
Saturday, February 25 - Colgate at Cornell, 3 p.m.
Sunday, February 26 - Colgate at Cornell, 3 p.m. (if necessary)

Happy for the success of the women's team this season; 20 wins is nothing to sneer at.  But home ice was never a reality and beating Cornell is not much of one, either.  Still much work to do to become an upper-echelon team in the league and in the nation.  Fargo definitely taking Colgate in the right direction.

Another lead we could not hold, another late goal with minutes to play, and yet another loss against another ranked team.  The improvements and successes of this program are starting to give way to mediocrity.  This team falls short quite a bit and has a way to go before it can be taken seriously.  Despite 22 wins, a very disappointing season...1-goal playoff hockey will not bring the hardware home.

Tough string of losses to end the season but generally a great year. We beat the teams we were better than, unfortunately 5 of the top teams in the country were in the ECAC this year. Next year we need to take some of our many shots from a bit closer so they have a better chance of going in the net. We seemed to outshoot everyone but couldn't score in any consistent manner as the shots were not of great quality and often wide or blocked...

Has this young WHOC team hit a wall ?

As the season ended with two tourney losses @Cornell, a big question emerges. Has this young team hit a wall that is impenetrable as this two year turnaround proceeds into another year ?

2014-15  ( 7-25-2, 4-16-2 ),  2015-16 ( 22-9-1, 12-5-5 ), 2016-17, ( 22-11-3, 13-10-1 )

The attraction of following WHOC continues to be the confluence of elements that sparked the turnaround into a potential permanent Program transformation. With virtually the entire sophomore-junior-class-dominated-team returning next year, we can anticipate another year of pounding against, what is becoming to all of us, a familiar wall.
