Am I missing something or do neither the men's nor women's teams have any new players this coming year. I can sort of understand the women not really needing anyone with two very good freshmen injured in the first 10 games last year and declared out for the season at that time, but the men? Come on we can use all the help we can get...very strange... Shocked

Can't speak to the men, but I've gotten to know Coach Cleary a little bit this summer and he has two freshmen coming who he thinks will be able to contribute (to some degree) this year.  He likes his group and with a year in the system thinks they will be more competitive... but recognizes there's still a ways to go.  Going to be emphasizing speed, trying to play faster... sounds like rebounding will remain a challenge.  Anyway, Coach is a very open and engaging guy, if you get a chance to meet him I think you'll be impressed.

The men only lost two players - Harries who graduated and Krmpotich who left the team - so there wasn't room for many new players.    They have added three, one of whom I believe is a preferred walk-on.    One of the scholarship players is David Maynard from Utah, who committed a few years ago but then went on a Mission for two years.

I would be surprised if any of the frosh contribute much this year.

A few notes:

1.  It appears that the Aussie, Baxter, may have been a late signee.  I know nothing about him - but he might save the class.

2.  Burns committed as a HS senior 15 months ago - but did a PG year.   That might have been part of the deal.

3.  As I mentioned before, Maynard committed almost three years ago, but did a Mormon mission to South America.

4.  I suspect Ferguson is a preferred walk-on.

Please define "preferred walk on."  Is the player one who is simply guaranteed a spot on the roster?

Yes.    Remember that I only said I suspect that is his status.    I base that on two things:  (a) he had no D1 offers;   and (b) he committed very late to CU, i.e. April 11th.      There also is a connection between CU basketball and him - he was a HS teammate of Dana Batt.

Having said that, he did say on April 9th that he had an "offer" from CU.   But it is possible that offer was merely to be a preferred walk-on and receive some need-based aid.   He had a signing ceremony - but thousands of non-scholarship athletes have done that.

Ferguson appears to be a good shooter, so he may end up being a contributor.
